Testing Policy and Procedures
MLS Proctoring Policy
All tests and exams are to be taken without the use of outside resources, including but not limited to notes, books, electronic devices, and searching the internet. Violation of these expectations and use of a resource not approved in advance by the course director to take a test or exam will result in a grade of zero “0” for that test or exam and formal counseling for academic and/or professional misconduct. Any infraction could affect the student’s status in the program.
Institutional Remote Testing
Please be advised that during this course, you may be required to take examinations remotely with the assistance of proctoring tools used to preserve academic integrity and fairness during remote exams. Such proctoring tools used during remote exams may include, but are not limited to, the utilization of video and/or audio capabilities to examine, scan, evaluate, and/or monitor you, your workstation, associated areas, and surroundings (“Exam Conditions”). By continuing to remain in this course, you consent to these Exam Conditions. If you do not consent or wish to withdraw your consent, please contact the Office of Student Affairs, and other arrangements may be made, such as onsite testing.
Electronic Devices
A personal PC, laptop, or desktop computer is required to access and submit assignments in Brightspace. 2-in-1 Laptop/Tablet Devices (with the exception of a Surface Pro with the most up-to-date Windows software) will not work with Brightspace.

Software Requirements
Microsoft Office 2010 or newer. If you do not have Microsoft Office 2010 or newer installed, you will have problems viewing some documents posted by the professor. Microsoft Office 365 is available as a free download directly from Microsoft. Please go to the following page for more information: https://hscweb.ttuhsc.edu/it/is/itsolutioncenter/media/.
3rd Party Proctoring Policy and Instructions
For your End-of-Rotations and Comprehensive Exams, a third-party proctoring service will be used. This service uses AI software and personnel who review each test and exam to flag indiscretions occurring during the test or exam proctoring session to determine if a student is cheating. Things to consider: Open Note/Book and outside resources will NOT be allowed.
Exams that have been designated to use the 3rd party proctoring service will require the following:
- Show your valid government picture identification.
- Use a functioning camera that enables you to scan your test-taking area.
- Speakers for recording sound. Headphones are not allowed while testing.
Components of the proctoring service monitoring system
- The service will record your computer screen during the test or exam. If you have multiple computer monitors, the service will only allow one active monitor to be used. If a separate window, browser, or messaging system is opened during a test or exam, the action will be flagged, and a recording of your proctored session will be reviewed to determine if cheating occurred.
- The service will record your audio during the test or exam. Talking out loud during the test or exam will be captured, and the service personnel will notify us if it is deemed suspicious activity.
- The service will use your webcam to video you while you are taking your test or exam. ID verification will be used to set up your profile. Actions that could be flagged as suspicious include:
a. Walking away from the computer during a test or exam.
b. Your face is not visible in the recording screen.
c. Looking away from the computer screen as if searching through your book or notes for answers.
In the health care field, integrity is a high priority whether you are a student, employee, or provider. Cheating will not be tolerated during any of your tests or exams.
Items you can use on tests and exams:
- A 9x12 dry-erase board. Paper is NOT allowed.
- Non-programmable calculator; example: TI-30 calculator
Professors will provide the service with information approving the use of calculators and whiteboards during tests and exams.
Cheating consists of:
- Using search engines (ex, Google) to look up answers
- Using digital or printed lecture material during tests or exams
- Using digital, printed, or handwritten notes during tests or exams
- Using your phone, tablet, a second computer, or another digital device during tests or exams
- Messaging someone to discuss questions during a test or exam
- Verbally discussing questions with someone during a test or exam
- Having someone else take a test or exam for you
- Copying exam questions for any reason
- Walking away or leaving the field of view of your computer camera at any time during the exams
- Leaving the test area during an exam, or exiting Brightspace or LabCE during tests and exams
- Averting eyes away from the computer screen excessively or for prolonged periods of time
- A test or exam taken outside of the proctoring service is a violation of Academic Integrity and will be assigned a grade of zero “0” in addition to formal counseling, which may result in dismissal of the student from the program.
