NURS 5212 - Advanced Nursing Leadership in Practice: Practicum II

The course focuses on designing a quality improvement project within the practice site, emphasizing the practical application of quality improvement methodologies. Students are required to develop and later execute a project tailored to the specific needs of their practice site. The project must align with organizational priorities and adhere to TTUHSC QIRB standards. By the end of the course, students must secure approval for their quality improvement project from both the practice site and TTUHSC QIRB, demonstrating their ability to translate theoretical knowledge into actionable, evidence-based practice improvements. This precepted practicum course continues a focus on achieving competencies as an MSN prepared nurse leader. Students complete 128 practicum hours engaging in nursing leadership practice experiences to demonstrate competencies in specified segments of the leadership standards detailed by the American Nurses Associations Nursing Leadership Scope and Standards of Practice (2024) and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Advanced-Level Essentials (2021). All course requirements are online. Practicum experiences occur over 16 weeks per semester, resulting in approximately 8 hours a week. The student will continue their leadership growth plan established in Practicum I while developing their QI project.
