NURS 5211 - Advanced Nursing Leadership in Practice: Practicum I

This practicum course focuses on achieving competencies as an MSN prepared nurse leader. Students complete 128 practicum hours engaging in nursing leadership practice experiences to demonstrate competencies in specified segments of the leadership standards detailed by the American Nurses Associations Nursing Leadership Scope and Standards of Practice (2024) and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Advanced-Level Essentials (2021). The course emphasis begins the students leadership learning journey by promoting continuous self-awareness and specific goals for growth in ones capacity for leadership excellence. Through self-assessments, preceptor feedback, and objective simulated/structured clinical experiences (OSCE), the students learning opportunities are tailored to fit the students individual needs. All course requirements are online. Practicum experiences occur over 16 weeks per semester, resulting in approximately 8 hours a week. The student’s action plan will include multiple methods to achieve the overall program requirement of 512 practicum hours.
